Just posted a video of my attempts to reduce the microphone wind noise that seems to plague my motocross race videos. I apologize in advance for the typos. Watch the video and let me know what you think (questions/comments).

Im having a problem, i recorded 2 loops riding yesterday. When i go to play them back in each video it seems to start to stutter in the playback before all of a sudden the video just stops at the bottom right corner the picture is still moving a bit and the audio keeps playing, if you try to fast forward it just goes gray. Same thing when you try to reverse it and replay it. It will stutter then stop. Im using a sandisk premier sd like was suggested. Ive unistalled the vholdr software and reinstalled and tried on 2 different laptops all with the same result. I recored 31 minutes and 17 minutes and it jams up in each of the videos. Whats the problem any ideas?

vjohnson,
These covers are called Butler Creek "flip up scope covers" - you'll need to buy two - and they come in different size's - the ones you'll need are # 02 and the other is a # 04...

NOTE: open the package in the store and look through glass cover's, i found a few that were so bad it was like looking through plastic bottles..

On the # 02 you need to cut the hinge part holding flip up completely off right down to the base(it will look like a rubber sleeve) - then you'll need to cut just below where the flip up snapped in place, when done, insert the # 02 all the way into # 04 - now push the cover on to the VHOLDR lens all the way down to the base where camera mount slots are - it will be a tight fit but it works - it will also be tight in turning the laser for line up but you won't have to worry about bumping it when you take it off and storing it...
For less then 20 bucks you'll be saving a $ 350 camera "lens" from road damage..
You can find these things at any gun store/shop or any sporting goods store...

I've posted a few pics on Toby's " Google group " in which I installed a scope cover to protect the lens from being damaged by road hazard's, it looks like they were factory made for each other...

how do you get an edited video with music onto the vholdr site?

Do yourself a favor though and purchase a 2GB SanDisk Premier Card, or something of the same quality. It's a night and day difference in quality versus a cheap card that's not cut out for media.

Once I put the "Premier" level MicroSD Card everything was good from there on out. Mic is sensative, so I'm just gonna have to fabricate something to cover the camera body. Video quality is very nice; best I've seen out of a helmet cam. I'll start posting vid's once I get out riding again. They'll be sick.

Hey everyone. We're in the process of putting up a forum, woohoo. Our goal is to get it up in the next few weeks, we're working on some final bugs. We love the VholdR pride! Thanks, the VholdR Team.

Ok there should be a new rule that if you buy a helmet camera, it should be for action video. If your going to video and (upload) your desk-top or your dog, you should strap it to your computer and through it off the roof or tie it to your dog and have him run through the woods.

Finally got to use my VholdR camera at a TORCS race this past sat. Camera worked great! But I put in a 2 gig card so it would record the whole 70 min race & it stopped recording at 49:45. Battery was still good to go.

I used a Kingston microSD card. I have reformatted the card & will try it again at the track this weekend to see what happens.

I see a few others have this issue... what card brands did you use? and I agree some forums would be good to discuss tips, issues ,etc...

Hope some of the accessories come out soon! otherwise great lil camera.

Maple Leaf,
thanks for the info... I just knew it was going to be something as simple as that..

Victory,
Did you format your microSD card before you started making vidoes? I forgot to do that before making my first video. Turned out I only had sound and no video. After formatting the card according to the supplied paperwork the problem was solved!

I've loaded everything what the disk that came with it to see if that would make any diff, but still get sound and no video.....It might be operator error, I don't know. Brought the vholdr to a friends computer and get the samething..
So tell me, what am I doing so wrong...
Appreciate any help.. Please make it simple, I'm not up to the computer thing :)

Thanks Toom038,
wasn't sure how much prying it takes to get the mount apart...
Again thanks

03/18/08 09:03

Victory, There is velcro between the two. The best way I have found is to mount the camera then using a prying motion to pull the two apart.

Any one know how in the heck you adjust the helmet mount, I've tried pushing pulling turning and it just won't rotate at all, or does it?

I put a small bandaid over the mic hole, it helped a little, voices from someone standing next to you sound alot clearer but my own voice and the wind is still overdriving the mic. need to findout if there is a way to ruduce the sensativity of the mic input sitting?
Something for the R&D guys. lol

03/16/08 17:03
Toom038

Iceman, What do you use to cover the whole unit with? Do you have problems uploading to the vholdr site? I can't seem to get mine to uplaod properly.

03/16/08 07:03
kanadianiceman

unfourtuantley the microphone is too sensative & covering the hole will do very little, you need to cover the WHOLE unit.

Have the unit recording and just brush your finger along the VHOLDR in certain places, you will notice scratching noises on the sound. This is because the microphone is so sensative and it is connected to the VHOLDR, that the VHOLDR is acting as a tuning fork, thus why wind is so bad and amplified.

03/04/08 09:03
Toom038

GMS, there is a small hole on the botton of the camera. It's acually on the rail mount next to the lazer sticker, that's the mic. I would try covering it with something to keep the wind noise out. I will try that this weekend to see if that works.

Charlie175, I too have noticed that im only getting about that amount of time on a 2GB card. Is that your Premier card?

Anyone fixes for the muffeled audio? Ive checked out some vid's that have ok audio and alot that dont, including mine. any thoughts???

Check out Amazon for your MicroSDs.

02/25/08 16:02
charlie175

I'll also add that I am getting 42 minutes of record time from a 2GB card. This why I need it to read 4GB+ cards as our Hare Scrambles are 2 hours long or more.

02/25/08 11:02
charlie175

The low cost micro SD cards didn't work for me, I had to get a Mobile Premier card in order for it to record right.

02/25/08 09:02
lkuracina

I got my micro SD cards from http://www.supermediastore.com
I'm not affliliated with them but I find that they have great prices. 2G micro SD for under $20. Assuming 2G provides almost 2 hours of video and the battery lasts for 2 hours they are a good fit. 2 hours is a lot of video to edit :)

Great new toy!

02/21/08 11:02
Bogley

Thanks for the video, I'm currently waiting for more stock to order....

So how long does the battery last on average, and how much does a spare cost?

02/20/08 20:02

I received my camera two days ago after waiting nearly three month. Not a problem as I rather have a working unit then a faulty one (I live in Sydney and exchanging the camera every time something goes wrong is rather tedious). I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t a MicroSD card included (I somehow have it in mind that is should include a 1G card). So I raced off and bought a 4G SDHC card and wacko – it doesn’t work. Now back to the shop and getting another one. And then, hopefully, I will be able to play with the new toy.

It would make things easier if you would include a note in the package that the camera doesn’t support the SDHC cards.

On another note, when will the different mounts be available?

02/19/08 12:02
charlie175

I made my own out of a cell phone pouch and velcro. It works very well, I have a short video on here about it, I need to show it with the camera in it.
My main issue is with the video getting distorted while riding. I am going to try out the Premier SD card to see if it gets better.
I ride the Virginia HS series

02/18/08 06:02
stuntjake

Charlie175, what kind of mount are you using? I race hare scrambles and GNCC's I was conserned about trees and vine snagging the camp. a tree branch hitting the cam at 50mph would rip it right off. and twenty20 says they dont have any extra mounts to sell. who knows when that will be since it took many months to get the cam.

When do you think MAC software will be released?

02/16/08 16:02
rg

Where do you find a 4gb sd card?

02/14/08 08:02
charlie175

I agree, I purchased a HC card just for this only to find out it doesn't work. I am still testing the unit with different mounts as the supplies mount sticks out to far on from my MX helmet. Trees and vines will snatch it! I am going to use a double tooth 3M velcro mount that should snug it in tight

02/12/08 21:02
stuntjake

Even though the box says it supports 4gb cards it does not. VholdR will not record on a HC card. Make sure all of your cards are formated to "FAT32" and not just "FAT" My jackson hole videos should be up soon, im here right now.

02/11/08 04:02

We put a 4gb hdsd card in and it does not. We formated the card per instructions but the camera does not like it. What could be the problem?

02/10/08 10:02
Gordo

Received my VholdR. No memory card included. Ordered a microSD card.....4GB. Camera won't work. Well....now I see why. Really would be great if this bit of information was in the instructions or on the box.

02/08/08 10:02
OG_Jason

Responding to comments: If something happens to your lens cap, let us know and we'll get you taken care of. The software is getting better everyday and we'll release an official update that runs A LOT faster soon (hopefully). Regarding the cards, yeah we cut out SDHC because it was troublesome to support because so many computers and perpherials don't support it.

02/07/08 02:02
harrysheene

Pity I just saw this, just brought 4 X 8 Gb cards..... Oh well, just have to buy some more. But thanks for the product....

02/04/08 07:02
stuntjake

Great product. The video is clear and worked well for me in 10 degree weather. The only thing that is not quality is the downloading to the computer. Slow, and sometimes freezes up. I use other converters and plarers then Twenty20 software. works smoother and faster. I just hope this product holds up to 3 hour dirt bike races through hell. and is there a protective lens cap so it doesnt get scratched from rocks and branches?

I understand now, why my 4 Gb microSD card is not working. :-P

Would be great to indicate on the box. ;-)

I wish everyone who sold consumer electronics took the time to put stuff like this together. Good job. Keep em coming.
