1. How do you turn on and record with VholdR?
To get started with VholdR we keep the experience as simple as possible. The following is a high-level, quick-start guide to go from powering up to recording your first video.
- Open the back door. Place the battery in the slot (plus sign up) and close the battery latch.
- Close the back door and make sure you’ve slid the record switch (located on top) away from the lens and all the way to the back so that it’s touching the back door of the camera.
- Press and hold the back button until the lights and lasers turn on. After about 15 seconds the camera will beep and the lights and lasers will turn off.
- To record, slide the top switch forward. To stop recording, slide it back. The front LED will change from solid red (ready) to flashing red (recording).
- To check the battery and memory status, press and hold the power button (when the camera is on) for 1-2 seconds.
- To align the camera, press and hold the power button (when the camera is on) for 1-2 seconds and the lasers will turn on and stay on for 15 seconds.
- To power off, press and hold the power button for 6-7 seconds until the lights turn off.
2. What is the video resolution for the VholdR?
VholdR records TV quality video in full, rich color. We tuned the image sensor to handle quick-changing light conditions and fast action so the camera is used best outdoors, not in your living room.
- Resolution: 640x480
- Frame Rate: 30 frames per second
- Field of View: 90 degrees
3. What file format and codec does the VholdR record to?
VholdR uses an Xvid codec relying on an MPEG-4 video compression, which means your video files will be an .avi file type. With the VholdR Desktop software we included a freeware program called FFMPEG that installs any of the video codecs you may be missing so the videos will play smoothly on your machine.

4. What memory card is accepted by the VholdR?
VholdR records to an internal microSD memory card, which means there are no wires and no separate recorders. We include a 1GB size card in the box when you buy the camera; VholdR is compatible with up to a 2GB non-SDHC memory card. Please note that VHOLDR IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SDHC MEMORY CARDS.
5. What is the average record time for a memory card with the VholdR?
VholdR will record about 50 minutes per GB. Your record times will also vary slightly in cold weather conditions and with older memory cards.
6. Does the VholdR record sound?
Yes, VholdR uses an embedded microphone that is located on the bottom of the camera. The VholdR microphone has been tuned to hear action as well as voices, so at high speeds (above 20 miles per hour) the wind will be the most dominant sound.
7. What type of battery does the VholdR use?
The VholdR uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, located right inside the back door of the camera. The reason we use a rechargeable battery is so that you can save money by not using AA batteries, and you can recharge your own battery whenever you want so that you can keep recording. We even put a quick check feature on the camera to tell you just how much battery life you have left. Lastly, using a rechargeable battery keeps the camera compact and wearable.
The primary method for recharging your VholdR is to use the included USB cable and connect it to your computer. We also sell a wall charger to recharge batteries. On average, VholdR takes four hours to completely recharge when the camera is turned off and connected to your computer.
8. How long will the battery last?
The VholdR battery will last about two hours (120 minutes) before you need to recharge or replace the battery with a spare. Battery times are reduced in cold weather conditions. Also, the camera has an auto-shut off feature, which means that if you leave your camera on for over 15 minutes and it’s not recording the camera will power off. The reason we include the auto shut-off feature is to help you conserve battery life, especially if you accidently forget to turn off your VholdR.
9. Is the VholdR compatible with Windows and Mac?
VholdR and the VholdR Desktop software are Mac and Windows compatible. When you connect the camera to your computer it will show up as a standard USB device. On the SD card we include a simple installation file to help you quickly install VholdR Desktop. Our VholdR Commitment is to make action video easy to shoot and share; the VholdR Desktop makes it nearly automatic to import, clip, and share your videos to VholdR.com.
10. How do I know if my record slider is too loose?
The record slider is designed to be loose enough so that it will easily slide between the ‘Off’ and ‘Record’ positions. The slider is too loose if the camera inadvertently turns the record function on or off while engaged in activities. If this occurs while your camera is under warranty, please contact Twenty20 technical support and provide the serial number of your camera along with your return mailing address, email address, and phone number.
