Sound issues

Toom038

I'm having problems with alot of wind noise. I've tried several ways of wrapping the camera but nothing seems to work. Is there a way to make the mic less sensitive?

I put duct tape on and that helped a lot. Plus they unit is in a cell phone holder so it adds another layer to the wind noise. Still need a less sensitive mic though

Toom038 - what kind of riding are you doing? And how fast are you going?

This issue is under hot debate here at Twenty20 because it seems to get a variety of feedback depending upon conditions.

The best piece of advice we can give right now is that the little hole on the bottom of your VholdR is the pickup area for your mic. You can cover it with a small piece of tape and that will substantially reduce your wind noise, and go thicker from there depending upon the results you are looking for.

I ride motocross with the camera mounted on the right side chin bar. I'm guessing top speed of around 50 mph.I have tried all kinds of tape in increasing layers. Most of the noise seems to be amplified throught the hollow mounting rail.

I have put tape & foam over the mic hole, when mounted on my helmet you can hear nothing but wind noise once I hit 15mph. I made a mount for the camera in a closed cell foam block & mounted it behind my windscreen and still have tons of wind noise. The mic. seems to be too sensitive maybe?

Foam mount for camera.

I would have liked a remote mike jack but I guess the would have eliminated the water resistant feature. Above about 30 mph on the bike and the wind noise takes over completely. I'm sitting behind a large windshield but that doesn't help.

what speeds are most of you traveling at? 0-30mph, 30-60mph, or 60+mph?

At a track day 0-150ish... When I use it on public roads much slower, but it doesnt matter because anything over 20-25 is just wind noise.

Check out this video, it's another option if you're getting excess wind noise.

Most often it is caused by angle. The mic itself is recessed in the bottom of the case so if you are angled even slightly down you should avoid a lot of wind noise, however if you are tilted up then the wind is blowing right into the mic.

My camera points slightly down, but still loads of wind noise over 10 or 15 miles an hour
