Mountain Bike helmet mount

hardpack

Since the vented (bicycle)helmet mounts are unavailable how can I safely mount this camera to my helmet? I see people posting mountain biking clips...so how are the cameras mounted?

What is the expected availability date? The flat mount doesn't really work on a well vented mountain bike helmet. Duct tape hardly seems like the solution. I'd like to be able to use the camera, but I can't hold it in my hand or teeth.

It is pretty lame that they don't have a bike helmet mount for a helmet camera. But you can use zip ties and it works relatively well if you can get it to aim right. I wrap plumbing insulation around the camera and zip tie it.

How do you access the on/off switch once you have the insulation and zip ties in place? It also seems like the aim point would change as the zip ties are tightened down.

The helmet camera is pretty damn useless, just sitting in a box on my desk, because it can't be reasonably mounted on my helmet. The excitement has worn off, but the frustration is starting to wear off too. My friends no longer ask about it. A potentially nice camera goes into the closet because they can't supply a $0.25 piece of plastic??

What is wrong with this (not moving) picture?

I can generally turn the switch on even with the zip ties tied on, I just have to take the helmet (and my gloves) off to do it. It takes a bit of finesse but it's doable. The angle is a problem. I managed to tie it in a way that makes it not point down too far, but it's still somewhat problematic. Here's a video my friend and I shot with it zip tied like I said: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.... I had to hold my head up higher than I'd prefer, but it worked okay.

There are also some helmets that are flat enough for the mount to work. Check out the beginning of the Bike magazine's review here: http://bikemag.com/av/flash/VH...

Or you can go crazy taping the mount to your helmet...

Hey all. Just so you know, the vented helmet mount is high on the priority list for our manufacturers and they are currently working on creating the tools to get them into production as soon as possible. Until then, keep sharing your DIY solutions. Love those original ideas!

Just to follow-up on the plumbing insulation I mentioned in the earlier post -- I wrap it under and around the camera (like a half circle) and leave the space for the on/off switch.

here is an idea for vented lids...
I used a larger velcro strap thru the vents.
Velcro squares on camera to lid with helmet stuffin to level out the VholdR instead of moving the lens to accommodate.

Added pix of the setup at beginning of video.. will move it forward just a notch to get more of a down view was a bit high on lid for this 1st run. Didn't want to just video the ground as many others have posted already. lol
Here are some lid pix for vented cam mount -
