Hello!
what i have seen yet, i think the new vholdr is (really!) what we have waiting for, at least the video quallity! put what i didn't understand is why the microfon is on the same bad position, with this tiny sharp edged hole! i think this is one of the main reason for the wind nois!
In the "Dual Stunt" video you can hear the wind nois again, an that at about 20mph, what would happen at 70mph?!
In one of the vholder support-forum threads any one descript how it works better, use a airodynamik thing arround the micro with a hole like one is used on bassreflex-pipes so that the wind has no edge where it tear of (?)!, and i think it is helpfull to uncouple the microfon from the rest of the housing for example with smooth silicon or anythink like that!
i have allready pre ordert one, and i think i will pimp my countour in that way!
sorry for my bad english but i think you know what i mean!
greets from austria (Mozartkugel not kangaroo ;-) )

Hey Neamt,
Thanks for the feedback, we put a lot of effort into improving the mic over the VholdR. The first thing we were able to do was test a bunch of different hardware. The mic we've selected is a significant hardware improvement over the original.
Following that we've taken a look at the positioning and packing as well. We've found a good balance that filters out much more wind but still allows the sounds of the ride to come through.
That being said, the results will always vary depending on the type of riding you are doing, so feel free to post any mods that you find help out. Also, it helps to include the type of riding you're doing too so others can figure out if the mod will work for them as well.
Thanks,
Nate

Out of curiosity, is the mic rubber mounted?
I think half of the problem with VholdR is coming from the wind hitting the housing. If the mic was fully rubber mounted I'd think there'd be a significant improvement.

Just tried my new Countour HD this morning on my bicycle. The camera came with a firmware update on a micro sd card which I installed first thing. I have to say that the audio so far is REALLY improved. OK this camera is light years better than the old model both in video and audio. The wind noise on the bicycle was minimal but other street sounds were clear. Great product!
Cool thanks dflowers!
Bean: regarding your comment. I'm not sure what the final packing material was, but I believe we experimented with and did end up packing around the mic to reduce the vibration noise you are referring to.

As any videographer will tell you, sound is 75% of a good video. From what I have seen on the new Contour HD, the folks at VholdR deserve a BIG Attaboy for the outstanding improvement in audio quality. Not only is the audio quality excellent, but it doesn't pick up as much wind noise as my prosumer level HD camcorder. Wind noise is a big problem for any micraphone and the best solution is to keep it out of the windstream. However, I was surprised that at lower speeds, the wind noise is muted and your voice can be heard. While not totally eliminated, it might be within stiking range of my noise reduction software. I'll report back on some tests to see what is possible. BTW, will you have a firmware upgrade to improve the sound on my non-HD VholdR?
Good to hear Chazbo, keep us in the loop on what you hear. Regarding the VholdR, I don't know if we'll get an update out, mainly because the improvements we were able to make started with using a more modern piece of hardware. But, we'll let you know if we come up with something.

I took 15min of HD video this weekend with the ContourHD on the side of my motorcycle at a trackday. I was doing approx 135mph at the end of the straight and the wind noise was not horrific. It was definitely there, but not nearly as bad as the VholdR videos I have seen.
You guys did a great job on the new camera. I have a couple of minor issues, but until I can get the software working I am not able to post the video in order to ask the questions I need to ask. (email is in to Beta-Testing for my software issue)
JC uou can use the "upload" button at your login to upload your video. Thats what I have been doing.
Ok other
than poor placement on my helmet yesterday (recording about 4 feet in front of my wheel, yielding a car sick like feeling during playback) the video is way better. Need to adjust mount and reshoot. Only issue is a total lack of sound, wind noise or anything. Any ideas?
Also the camera itself seems to rattle somewhat on the mount, meaning it doesn't seem to fit my vented helmet mount quite as snuggly. I'll try to thicken the mount with some electrical tape to make it tighter.
I've got a video that should give an idea of how good the mic is on ContourHD. It's way better then VholdR's for sure!

bikerjosh, if your getting no sound at all from the .mov files, try renaming them to .mp4
This worked for me. I read it may be something to do with the file header(s) not being completely filled out. Maybe a future firmware will correct it?

Hi bikerjosh,
No sound would be a new thing on our end. Shoot an email to support@ so we can start a case for you. We'll get you rolling.

The video is too large to post via the upload button.
Since the software does editing, as well as posting, I am 'up the creek' so to speak, until my issue is resolved.
Got the software issue sorted with the new build.
Video here (small bit of editing with the Easy Edit made the file half the size)

Fixed my audio issue. For some reason the easy edit software didn't load and I was still using vholdr software but wasn't getting sound. Now I have the new software and the sound is present.
I have a similar audio issue. No audio in the vholdr desktop client, however it works if I load it up in quicktime. Odd.
Hey epim,
If you are using the ContourHD you will need to use the Easy Edit software and it should playback the audio properly. We have heard feedback that the VholdR Desktop software will not play the audio back properly for videos taken with the ContourHD. However, with the Easy Edit software your videos will play back correctly with audio for videos taken with your ContourHD and VholdR. You can download the Easy Edit software here:

Quicktime & easy edit software plays audio fine, this is the audio i have been waiting for!!!
The easy edit software is a bit slow for pausing, seeking etc, I use quicktime pro most of the time.
