TheStreet.com - Behold the VholdR Wearable Camera

Friday, September 5, 2008 - 7:38am

Gadget Grrl from TheStreet.com wrote a short review on the VholdR.

"This camera has a threaded mount that is specifically made to attach to a helmet. You could also attach it to a hat and grab some pretty interesting footage at a sporting event, or at an outdoor concert, or along a street in a crowded city.

The camera shoots MPEG4 AVI, and there is a 1GB flashcard included, which should give you about 50 minutes of video at 640x480 @ 30 (frames per second). That's fine to put on the Web.

You can also upgrade to 2GB with a microSD card. Once you have shot your footage, you can download it via USB. If you've got really exciting footage, you can go to Vholdr.com and upload it.

What I like about this camera, besides the durability and rugged casing, is the ability to get footage that you would not normally be able to get for fear of dropping or damaging another more fragile video camera.

Whether you are zooming down a dirt trail or heliskiing, this lightweight camera (3.75 in x 2.1 in x 1.35 in and 4.8 oz) can grab incredible shots along the way. "

PNWRiders.com and WMRRA.com Review

Wednesday, September 3, 2008 - 4:26pm

Check out the review on PNWRiders.com and WMRRA.com

"First, the camera itself. The awesome thing about this camera is that it's totally self-contained, rather than a bullet cam attached by a video cable to a seperate recorder somewhere else. It is slightly bigger than a bullet cam to house a battery and memory card but I still haven't had an issue placing the cam anywhere I want. It comes with a basic mount (I haven't had a need for another yet) but the company is coming out with a vented helmet mount, a handlebar mount and others soon. The whole package is very tough with an all metal body. The front lens element rotates to make lining up the horizon very easy."

...

"Each time you start and stop it, it creates a new file on the memory card, all you have to do is drag and drop the files onto your computer to edit them. I use 2gb memory cards (microSD) that record about 2 hours of video. The main downside of the the self-contained units is battery life (two hours is the most I've gotten out of a charge) but new batteries are under $10 so it's easy to buy a few extra."

...

"Perhaps the best part of the camcorders is the durability. They've survived two crashes at the race track and the best test so far, one flew off my motorcycle at approximately 120mph on a street ride. It bounced over 1/4 mile down the road, the memory card and battery getting flung out in the process, but worked perfectly after that."

VholdR Introduces Geotagging

Tuesday, September 2, 2008 - 12:37pm

VholdR.com, a video community enabling people to share life from their point of view, introduces video GeoTagging. Users are now able to relate their video adventures to the locations where it the action is captured. The launch of GeoTagging on VholdR.com adds a new dimension to the growing shoot and share VholdR community.

Powered by the VholdR wearable camcorder, VholdR.com becomes the first video community to embrace video GeoTagging as a focus of the community experience. VholdR users share video from exciting locations including running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, skiing steeps in Jackson Hole, biking slick rock in Moab, and motorcycling winding roads in the French Alps.

“VholdR users live life leaning forward, capturing video from within the action in the most amazing locations,” said Marc Barros, CEO of VholdR. “VholdR.com offers a whole new perspective on ‘real life video’ by making it easy to share the action and the location with the click of a button. GeoTagging is just the beginning in bringing ‘real life video’ and community together.”

Members of VholdR.com enter the GeoTag of their video either right out of the VholdR wearable camcorder or during the upload process. Visitors to the Web site are able to search for videos based on location through an interactive Google map.

Viewers are then taken into the action from the participant’s point of view and able to simultaneously view the location on a map while the video plays. Location meta data helps to establish VholdR.com as the user generated video community with the best riding, skiing, boarding, and biking locations from around the world.
